The 2019-20 school calendar received preliminary Board approval at the December 17th monthly meeting. Final approval will be in January but we wanted to post this calendar as anticipated for our families that have to submit their 2019 vacation days before the end of the 2018 calendar year. A few notes on the calendar:
- The school term has 173 student instructional days. There are an additional 14 days for staff where students do not attend (an opening and a closing day, four holidays and eight days used as professional development / teacher work days). We are required to document 16 make-up snow days.
- We want to thank all that voted on our survey. The committee, while not bound by the survey, did present the exact calendar that was “option A” on the survey question. Option A had 54% of the votes while Option B had 46%.
- We are starting a week later (August 14, 2018) than has been traditional the past several years. We do realize through feedback that the summer days in August were important to many of our responders.
- It is important to note that providing a Fall Break is not guaranteed each year. While we have traditionally taken the first full week of October as Fall Break, families shouldn’t schedule vacation on those dates until the calendar is published (as our 2019-20 calendar is now). Several responders mentioned that they already had Fall Break vacations booked for that first October week of 2019. It worked out this year, but Fall Break (or even a full week of Fall Break) is not guaranteed for 2020 until that calendar is approved in December of 2019.
