Giving Back

The graduate of Oldham County High School now lives on the line of Henry and Oldham counties. He substitute taught at Henry County for five years before he received his promotion to work full-time with the Individually Centered Education (ICE) program.

He now coaches middle school and high school sports, and he says he really sees the need for children to have a good holiday season.

“You get the meaning of Christmas working with kids,” Allen, who also photographs weddings and senior portraits, said.

Allen and his girlfriend, Britney Barnes, have three kids. The charity is an effort by the whole family.

“It’s good for him to see,” Allen said about his son. “We can show him how good a life he has.”

Britney agreed, noting that Phil is very kid-oriented from home to school life.

“We weren’t always in the position for our kids to have all the things that other kids have,” Barnes said. “Now that we are, we want to teach our kids to give back to the community.”

After the toys are collected, Allen will donate them to local charities.

Photos with Santa will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at the La Grange Community Center. The event is open to all. Only new toys will be accepted, in exchange for the photo.
