“We brainstormed together and decided to lead a week-long water bottle recycling drive for the school,” said teacher Megan Hook.
Each day leading up to Earth Day, kindergartners collected plastic water bottles from each classroom, counting and graphing the results. Bottles are then recycled in a bin behind the school. A little friendly competition between classrooms has energized the school-wide effort – a popsicle party awaits the classroom that has recycled the most bottles.
“We update the bulletin board every afternoon so the school can follow along,” Hook said. “The whole school has really gotten into it and in just the first three days, we had collected over 120 bottles.”
